What are frogs? Well here is a basic introduction to it! Frogs are a type of amphibian, which means they live underwater and on land. There are many types of frogs too! Here are some pictures to show you!
Frogs may not be the cutest, but they are very interesting! So lets explore some main topics about frogs!
The life cycle of a frog usually depends on the specific species. But here is a quick overview!
The basic structure of the frogs life cycle is when a female frog lays eggs that are cluttered together. Then the eggs hatch, revealing the first set of tadpoles. The tadpoles soon begin to grow legs. The tadpole then turns into a young frog which still has a tail. That is usually the time that they began exploring land. Finally it turns into an adult frog, who is ready to mate and set a new line of eggs.
The diet of a frog is not that simple. As tadpoles, they are all vegetarian. Most tadpoles feast on algae and other plants that are consumable. But if not a lot of food is available they will resort to eating eachother! Adult frogs mostly eat insects like Crickets, flies, moths, beetles, grasshoppers, ants, and spiders. But if they are big enough, they are able to consume small mammals, birds, and even reptiles.
Frogs are hunted by many types of animals! Birds like herons and crows feast on frogs. As well as some snakes and lizards. Even mammals like foxes and raccoons have been reported to have eaten frogs!
Frogs live almost everywhere, but they always need to be near water because their skin needs to stay wet. You can find frogs in places like ponds, swamps, and even in your backyard!
